Job Description Title: School Bus Driver (Type I & Type II) (Non-Exempt)

Reports to: CSO Director

Schedule: Various Shifts that requires flexibility

Salary: $25.00 per hour (DOE)

School Bus Driver Responsibilities:

· Pre- & Post Trip Inspection on assigned vehicles; ensuring safe operating conditions according to State and Federal Laws

· Ensure vehicle’s Safety: tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, fire extinguisher, windows, and locks

· Report immediately any bus malfunctions or needed repairs.

· Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios.

· Drive gasoline, or diesel powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport students between neighborhoods, schools, and school activities.

· Comply with safety rules while transporting students, boarding & exiting buses, and as they cross streets near bus stops.

· Properly secure wheelchair straps, car seats and seat belts, transport special need students

· Pick up and drop off students at regularly scheduled neighborhood locations, following strict time schedules.

· Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic and GPS programing directions.

· Escort small children across roads and highways.

· Keep bus interiors clean for passengers.

· Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures including proper use of but not limited to: Epinephrine Auto-Injector & Inhaler w/ Spacer.

· Maintain order among pupils during trips, in order to ensure safety.

· Make minor repairs to vehicles.

· Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, and/or fares received.

Minimum Qualification for SB/ Bus Drivers:

· Must have CDL Class B with P&S endorsements

· Must have a Valid California Special Driver Certificate

· Must have a Valid Medical examiner’s Certificate

· Must have clean driving record

· Must have clean background check/ Pass Drug Screenings

· Must be able to converse clearly and effectively in English (bi-lingual is a plus)

Adhere to DOT General Knowledge of:

1. School Bus Drivers and Motor Carriers Handbook

2. Transporting Passengers

3. Air Brakes, Emergency Exit and Evacuation

4. California Motor Vehicle Codes

Highly Preferred Skills Experience and Education:

 

The ideal candidate will have a combination of experience, education and behavioral competencies sufficient to exceed basic performance expectations for the position. This includes but is not limited to satisfactorily meeting the Cadet essential duties and performance expectations listed below.

 

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent

2. Ability to effectively manage passengers including customer service and conflict resolution skills

3. Effectively communicate company safety speech prior to every trip in accordance with MTS safety policies and regulations.

4. Develop and execute bus evacuation procedures to ensure passenger safety in the event of an emergency.

5. Ability to utilize GPS, computer, and “paper” maps as well as prepare trip mapping sheets for routes and charter trips.

6. Knowledgeable of the “10 code” communication system for commercial drivers

7. Prepare daily logs, profile sheets, pre-trip, and post trip documentation in accordance with company operational procedures

8. Prepare daily time sheets and record keeping data including trip mileage, fuel consumption and DVR reports.

9. Prepare written incident or behavioral reports accurately for any accidents

10. Average PC computer skills with ability to prepare routine documents and communicate via email and cell phone
