DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program prepares advanced social work practitioners to meet the needs of multicultural, multilingual, and diverse populations; to be ethical leaders in community-based practice; and to advocate for social and economic justice. The MSW program also maintains a special focus on the community issues of the California Central Coast region.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Practicum Education and Training Coordinator is responsible for providing comprehensive support across all facets of practicum education, ensuring that both students and instructors have the resources, guidance, and training necessary to create enriching, high-impact learning experiences. This role is pivotal in shaping quality internships for MSW students, collaborating with agencies, and assisting in the development of CEU-approved training programs.

 

Examples of Duties

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:

 

• Practicum Support and Coordination

• Provide ongoing support to practicum instructors, task supervisors, and agency partners to promote effective, compliant practicum experiences.

• Assist with all practicum education projects, including meeting programmatic and educational benchmarks in collaboration with the field education team.

 

• Continuing Education (CEU) Training Development and Delivery

• Develop and conduct CEU-approved training programs for practicum instructors and task supervisors, ensuring these professionals are well-equipped to mentor and support MSW students.

• Stay updated with best practices and advancements in social work education to keep training content relevant and impactful.

 

• Learning Agreement Development

• Guide and assist in creating effective, achievable learning agreements that align with educational goals and agency capacities.

• Ensure that learning agreements meet accreditation standards and address competency-based learning objectives for social work practice.

 

• Agency Collaboration and Internship Development

• Partner with community agencies to develop, assess, and refine internship opportunities that align with MSW practicum requirements.

• Support agencies in designing high-quality placements, especially for students in agencies without qualified MSW supervisors.

 

• Practicum Instruction and Student Support

• Provide direct practicum instruction to students placed in agencies without MSW-qualified supervisors, offering guidance, supervision, and skill development.

• Assist students in achieving their learning goals, navigating agency expectations, and building competencies essential for effective social work practice.

 

• Documentation and Evaluation

• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and records for all practicum activities and student progress, in accordance with program and accreditation requirements.

• Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of practicum education processes.

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

 

• Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required, with LCSW preferred.

 

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in social work practice, with a focus on practicum instruction, field education, or professional development.

• Strong knowledge of social work education standards, practicum placement practices, and competency-based learning.

• Demonstrated ability to create and deliver engaging, informative training sessions for diverse audiences.

The hiring range for this position is $70,000 – $75,000. Classification: Grade 6, Staff. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
