Title: Youth Navigator
Work Schedule: Monday -Thursday somewhat flexible hours between the hours of 10:00am – 6:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities. (Winter hours are from 9:00am – 5:00pm) Up to 24 hours per week. Weekly schedule (or changes) must be vetted/approved by the Executive or Deputy Director.
Position Summary: Youth Navigator staff assists with Mutual Aid Youth Leaders Project, resource sharing, and building relationships among youth and the community while promoting health and wellness, education, employment and housing opportunities. Will participate in program outreach, coordination of support and mobilizing services, and provide peer-to-peer support in the community. Due to federal funding requirements, qualified candidates must be a current or former unhoused youth/young adult.
Job duties include:
- Assists Mutual Aid Youth Leaders Program Coordinator in locating resources to meet the needs of Monterey County youth as they relate to housing, employment, education and wellness resources and opportunities.
- Connects youth peers to housing resources and essential services.
- Outreach in the communities of Salinas and Monterey County (i.e. create flyers, media outreach, conduct presentations, and host a booth at community agencies and events in regards to the Mutual Aid Youth Leaders program).
- Supports Mutual Aid Youth Leaders drop-in services including maintaining clothing closet, food pantry, and basic hygiene kits.
Supports in planning, implementing and facilitating life skills workshops for youth ages 14-24. - Assist with preparation and implementation of regular programming such as Mutual Aid Mondays and Self Care Saturday events.
- Demonstrates and holds high standards related to work ethic, partnership, personal/interpersonal, professional development and achievement through modeling organizational principles and practices.
- Forms connections with youth accessing the services offered within the Center and maintains communication with youth clients regarding basic needs and meeting wellness goals.
- Communicate regularly with the Mutual Aid Youth Leaders Program Coordinator to ensure that project and youth needs are being met when applicable.
- Participates in regular meetings hosted by agency and partnering agencies such as bi-weekly staff meetings and the Youth Systems Meetings hosted by the Coalition of Homeless Service Providers.
- Attend training sessions as instructed by the Mutual Aid Youth Leaders
- Program Coordinator and/or Executive leadership at The Epicenter.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Structure:
- Youth Navigator reports to Mutual Aid Youth Leaders Program
- Flexible hours if needed
- Salary range: Starting at $18 per hour; up to 24 hours per week

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated abilities to effectively coach peers, resolve diverse problems and act as a support for underserved youth
- Ability to work in a flexible way that allows for changes in assignments and priorities depending upon identified needs of the program
- Organizational skills to work effectively independently or as a team.
- Ability to cope with competing priorities and frequent interruptions
- Experience or ability to mentor youth peers
- High School diploma or GED recommended but not required
- Bilingual English /Spanish preferred but not required
