Mechanic
A mechanic assistant, also known as a mechanic helper, assists a licensed mechanic with various automotive repair and maintenance tasks, including basic repairs like oil changes, tire rotations, fluid level checks, part removal and replacement, cleaning work areas, and maintaining inventory, all under the supervision of a qualified mechanic; typically requiring minimal mechanical experience and strong attention to detail.
Key responsibilities of a mechanic assistant:
- Basic maintenance tasks: Performing routine maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations, fluid level checks, battery checks, and filter replacements.
- Part removal and replacement: Assisting with removing and installing parts like brakes, spark plugs, light bulbs, and other components as directed by the mechanic.
- Cleaning and organization: Keeping the work area clean and organized, including tools and parts
- Inventory management: Helping to maintain inventory of parts and supplies, checking stock levels, and ordering parts as needed
- Vehicle preparation: Moving vehicles around the shop, positioning them for repairs, and securing them properly
- Diagnostic support: Assisting the mechanic with basic diagnostics by checking codes, inspecting components, and identifying potential issues
- Tool handling: Properly using hand tools and power tools under supervision
- Safety compliance: Following all safety procedures and wearing appropriate protective gear
Required skills and qualifications:
