As a Program Leader at the Mae C Johnson Education and Cultural Enrichment Academy, you will play a pivotal role in providing mentorship, academic support, and enrichment opportunities for K-12 scholars. Through small group sessions, you will help students learn, review content, explain problem-solving techniques, and check completed homework. Additionally, you will assist students in developing study skills, organizational techniques, and habits to enhance their academic performance. Your role extends beyond academic support as you’ll also facilitate groups and serve as a Jegna (mentor) and role model. School breaks provide opportunities for more enrichment activities for students to engage with nature, STEAM activities, and local outings.
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic support to K-12 scholars in various subjects.
- Assist students in understanding difficult concepts and skills.
- Help students develop effective study skills and organizational techniques.
- Maintain reports on student progress and share them with the Program
- Coordinator, parents, teachers, and other staff members.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings for feedback/discuss program goals and individual student progress.
- Facilitate group activities focusing on social and emotional development.
- Facilitate workshops addressing personal and interpersonal needs of students.
- Uphold discipline standards and serve as a positive role model for students.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college experience highly desirable.
- Passion for helping students learn and the ability to motivate them.
- Patience and positive attitude when working with students facing challenges.
- Willingness to learn and develop skills in facilitating group activities.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred prior to hiring, or within 90 days of employment.
- Licenses and Certification
Availability:
- Must be fingerprinted for submission to the California Department of Justice.
- Availability Monday-Friday 8am – 5pm.
- Willingness to submit to substance testing as the organization maintains a drug-free workplace.
Compensation:
- $20/per hour
