Job Summary
Under the direction and guidance of AFRP Management,Treasure Shop Sales Associates are responsible for ensuring that customers, and volunteers have a positive and memorable experience at the AFRP Treasure Shop, sharing their passion for AFRP and bargain hunting. This position supports the operation of the Treasure Shop by executing all areas of the shopping experience, including knowledge of AFRP’s mission, performing sales, accepting and sorting donations, pricing items, promoting AFRP events and volunteering, and contributes to an upbeat atmosphere.
Job Duties
- Perform regular bank deposits, provide accurate opening and closing cash reports
- Complete cash handling procedures at the beginning and end of each shift with accuracy
- Supervise, train, support, and motivate TS volunteers
- Greets customers promptly and courteously
- Assist the public, including volunteers and staff with a friendly and positive demeanor
- Ability to communicate AFRP’s mission to customers and connect the work of the TS to the mission
- Interacts with all customers, coworkers, and all other members of the public with overall professionalism and etiquette – including communications by phone, email, and in-person
- Effectively manage time to avoid backtracking and delay of tasks
- Work independently and productively while still keeping open communication with others
- Maintain regular attendance and timeliness
- Assist with receiving, sorting, organizing, pricing, and merchandising new donations
- Offer feedback on pricing chart when edits/revisions are merited; research prices online as needed for speciality items; price items according to the pricing chart
- Keep all areas of the store clean, tidy, organized, and free of clutter
- Refresh and restock displays as needed
- Assist with merchandising and floor moves
- Assist with locating volunteer coverage as needed, including volunteer transport support
- Manage the TS general email and TS phone on a daily basis during working hours; return messages in a professional and timely manner
- Assist with social media channels as needed
- Lift up to 40lbs
- Perform other duties as assigned or otherwise identified
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications
- Proven experience in retail sales; ideally six-months relevant experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to work weekends
- Hard-working, self-starter
- Honest and reliable
- Ability to multitask, able to handle stress and pressure consistent with the job duties
- Strong communication and social skills, able to project friendly and professional demeanor at all times
- Team player with the ability to work independently
- Compassion for animals
- Experience in second hand or benefit shops a plus
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with no restrictions and the ability to travel locally as needed and maintain current vehicle insurance.
Typical Working Environment/Interactions/Physical Demands
- Located in a historic building with minimal insulation
- Subject to weather conditions (warm in the summer, chilly in the winter)
- Interacts regularly with Treasure Shop co-workers and volunteers, other AFRP staff, AFRP Executive Director and Board Members, donors, general public, and companion animals (Treasure Shop is pet-friendly)
- Constant (over 66% of the time) standing, bending, walking on flat wood floors
- Frequent (34-66%) lifting up to 40lbs, reaching over shoulders and head, reaching outward, grasping, holding, squatting, kneeling
- Occasional (1-33%) lifting/carrying/moving 40+ lbs with assistance, sitting
