Title: High School & Middle School Readiness Specialist – [40 hours/week – full benefits]

Work Schedule: Full-time, non-exempt. Generally scheduled up to 40 hrs/week, 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday during Regular Program; and 8:00am–6:00pm during Intersession Program. Occasional late evenings and weekends for staff training and special events (e.g., Family Nights, community service, field trips, etc.)

Reports to: Teen Services Coordinator

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Teen Coordinator, the HSR Specialist will support youth success through outstanding, Mission-driven and integrity-centered leadership and management of the Teen Pathway Center.This is accomplished by cultivating and managing a high performing team who delivers an engaging, age-appropriate and outcome-driven program serving the 6th-8th grade membership. The Readiness Specialist will obtain measurable progress in obtaining positive youth development outcomes, especially related to: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. Support youth to ultimately achieve on-time grade progression, high school graduation, college/postsecondary readiness and education leading to a livable wage career, healthy lifestyle and engaged citizenship.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Youth Success

Foster a safe, positive, fun and impactful Teen Pathway Center environment where youth acquire a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, power and influence
Support 6th-8th grade academic tutoring in Math, Science, Language Arts and implement BGCA programming
Ensure monthly case management for each HSR member
Classroom management: Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent
Provide youth a safe, positive environment – both physically and emotionally including assuming responsibility as a mandated reporter
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to support youth success
Ensure a culture of high expectations and frequent recognition of youth for their efforts and achievements.
Program Staff Supervision & Development

Work collaboratively with the Teen Services Coordinator in hiring, training, and managing Teen Services Youth Development Professionals and Volunteers
Plan & lead HSR/MSR staff meetings
Collaborate with Teen Coordinator to Monitor progress in achieving weekly, monthly & quarterly goals with clearly defined and measurable program outcome/objectives
Completion and oversight of performance reviews for HSR/MSR staff
Ensure ongoing training and professional development opportunities for HSR/MSR staff
Ensure HSR/MSR staff are knowledgeable and trained to utilize the Traxsolutions Membership system, tracking daily attendance, registering members, orientation, etc
Ensure HSR/MSR staff participate in annual mandatory safety training and youth development and program training
Program Impact Management

Monitor progress in achieving results and takes action accordingly, with special emphasis on youth reach (e.g., outreach, recruitment, retention, average daily attendance, program participation, etc.) and impact (i.e., youth progress in obtaining positive youth development outcomes)
Ensure the HSR program is offering quality youth development programs that are fun, educational and enriching; programs are modified and enhanced to accommodate 6th-8th grade teens
Utilize impact management tools effectively, including those monitoring specific youth success indicators such as school attendance, behavior, grades, standardized test scores, benchmarks, etc.
Gather and prepare data with accuracy and in a timely manner
Contribute to strategic planning with Teen Coordinator
Lead implementation with HSR/MSR team with clarity of goals, roles/responsibilities, and processes ensuring effective, accountable working relationships to achieve results;
Provide support for College & Career Readiness community outreach endeavors (i.e. job fairs, college fairs, presentations, events)
Ensure inventory is stewarded for intended use.
Responsible for delivery of school-day program commitment established in annual/quarterly goals
Facility Management

Manage safety and order in all aspects of Teen Pathway Center operations (including field trips and youth services delivered at non-BGCMC locations) as well as compliance to policy and standard operating procedures.
Report Teen Pathway Center and Clubhouse safety, transportation, maintenance, technology and facility rental issues so they can be promptly addressed by Operations.
Fulfill Manager on Duty role when assigned.
Work collaboratively with Teen Coordinator and Clubhouse Director to support Nutrition Services and Catch the Bus Program.
Ensure the implementation of a daily & weekly cleaning schedule and each HSR/MSR staff maintains a clean, neat and properly equipped program area.
Provide support to ensure the Teen Pathway Center is clean & well decorated with current posting, equipment is in good condition; program supplies are adequate and the environment is safe and inviting for all teen members.
Ensure the Teen Pathway Center environment provides HSR/MSR recognition opportunities for HSR members and staff, program information/rules are displayed.
Ensure HSR/MSR staff is trained in emergency & evacuation procedures.
Community Relations

Work with the Teen Coordinator on marketing strategies to build awareness of the College & Career Readiness program; recruit new members;
Collaborate with school officials, community groups, committees, and service organizations that provide networking opportunities
Supports organization-wide special events and fundraisers.
Increase visibility of College & Career Readiness programs via advertising and promotions in the community and in schools.
Imbue BGCMC’s solid reputation as a respected, trusted, and impactful youth development agency.
Recruit teens through direct interactions in casual settings and formal presentations.
Collateral Duties

Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with fulfilling the primary function of position.
Requirements:QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
Tech-savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet for maximum productivity
Experience

Minimum of two years of management experience, with proven success at leading teams to achieve results
Minimum of three years experience supporting youth to succeed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position including sitting or standing at least 50% of the time. Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must successfully complete all pre-employment screening requirements including:Live Scan fingerprinting
Background check
Drug & Alcohol screening
Highly desirable:

Oral and written Spanish fluency
Connectedness and experience working and living in Monterey County communities, especially those located in the Salinas Valley and on the Monterey Peninsula
Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement
First Aid & CPR Certification
COMPENSATION:

Starting Salary $24.77 to $26.02 per hour, the rate is based on experience and qualifications. Paid benefits package consisting of accrual of up to 100 hours of paid vacation, 56 hours of paid sick leave, plus 40 hours of paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
