JOB OVERVIEW

 

Under the direction of the Wellness Program Manager, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Shelter Monitor will be responsible for shelter operations during shifts when the Program Manager or Coordinator are not present. In addition to the normal Shelter Monitor duties, the CNA Shelter Monitor has CNA responsibilities.

The CNA Shelter Monitor will monitor and direct shelter guests to eat their meals, including breakfast, lunch and dinner; take blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature and SpO2; oversee and assist with preparing clients for sleep/wake-up; assist with general housekeeping; and orchestrate the safety and well-being of shelter guests. Must be able to work AM shift (7 AM to 3 PM) swing shift (3 PM to 11 PM) and/or graveyard shift (11 PM to 7 AM). Employment Classification:                Non-exempt

Work Hours:                                        Full-Time, flexible scheduling with nights and weekends

Hourly Wage:                                         $23.00

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

●       Take the vitals of all clients each shift.

●       Contact the Program Manager (PM) when any maintenance or repairs are needed.

●       Maintain guest confidentiality, privacy and HIPPA practices.

●       Participate in Med count with staff coming on and staff leaving.

●       Write a shift log for every shift and send it to PM and PC staff coming on. Always leave IMPORTANT NOTES until PM directs otherwise.

●       Unlock medication for the clients and allow them to take medication as it is directed in their Med file, always initial and sign and have client initial or sign when medication is given.
●       Assess guest needs, offer assistance, and help resolve issues that may arise.

●       Stay at assigned posts to monitor guests.

●       Use reflective listening and effective communication skills to interact with guests.

●       Perform room checks every hour.

●       Ensure donations are properly stored.

●       Maintain order and assist in keeping all assigned areas clean and free of spills, trash and safety hazards.

●       Attend all staff meetings and participate in activities designated by the PM.

●       Perform the job duties – cleaning and cooking – assigned to your shift.

●       Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

 

●     CNA Certification.

●     Two years’ experience working in the Human Services field serving homeless or at-risk populations, and/or equivalent experience in customer service.

●     Team player with demonstrated leadership skills, abilities and desire to interact with people at all levels.

●     Bilingual/Bicultural (Spanish) preferred.

●     Demonstrated dedication to working effectively with homeless, underserved, at-risk, or vulnerable populations.

●     Knowledge of services available in the region.
●   Demonstrated ability to make timely decisions and coordinate activities affecting multiple people.

●   Organized, attention to detail, results oriented.

●    Ability to calmly respond to crises/emergency situations.

●    Good communication skills.

●   Ability to pass criminal background check. Able to meet Community Homeless Solutions Working Conditions (see below)

●    Must be prompt and dependable.

Approximately 80% of the time performing job duties is spent indoors, within a standard office environment.

Approximately 60% of the time is spent on the computer.

Approximately 20% of the time is spent outside and in outreach activities.

Employee works near office equipment and may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electric shock.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The temperature of the work environment is moderate and ranges from 65 ~ 80 degrees.

TRAVEL

 

This job requires minimal routine travel within close proximity to the regular assigned work location.

Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, clean driving record, and the ability to be insured by the agency’s insurance carrier. Reliable transportation required.
