SUMMARY
Doctors on Duty is seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) with a strong background in Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Medicine to join our team in Salinas, CA. This position focuses on the evaluation and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses, return-to-work planning, and coordination with employers and insurers. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing workers’ compensation cases in compliance with California regulations, while also delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assess and treat work-related injuries and illnesses in compliance with OSHA and California Workers’ Compensation guidelines.
Conduct thorough physical exams, diagnostic evaluations, and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
Provide initial injury care, follow-up appointments, and return-to-work evaluations.
Complete and maintain accurate documentation including PR-1 forms, work status reports, and all necessary WC documentation.
Collaborate with employers, insurance adjusters, and case managers to communicate work restrictions and treatment updates.
Refer patients for physical therapy, imaging, or specialist consultations as needed.
Perform drug screenings, pre-employment physicals, and fit-for-duty exams.
Educate patients on injury prevention, recovery expectations, and workplace safety practices.
Maintain compliance with clinic protocols, HIPAA, OSHA, and all state Workers’ Compensation regulations.
Diagnose and treat common acute and chronic conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes).
Provide routine wellness exams, women’s health services, family planning, and pediatric care.
Order and interpret labs, imaging studies, and other diagnostics.
Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with California state law.
Counsel patients on health maintenance, prevention, and lifestyle modification.
Perform minor office procedures (e.g., wound care, splinting, laceration repair).
Collaborate with supervising physicians and interdisciplinary care teams.
Credentials /Education/Experience
Minimum 1–2 years of recent experience specifically in Workers’ Compensation care is required.
Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Current and unrestricted California RN and NP license.
National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (AANP, ANCC, etc.).
Registered with the DEA (or able to obtain within 6 months).
Current BCLS certification.
Familiarity with California Workers’ Compensation laws, documentation standards (e.g., PR-1, DWC forms), and case management protocols.
Strong clinical judgment and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Basic computer knowledge. Ability to master efficient use of EMR.
Telemedicine evaluations for common minor injuries and illnesses.
Minor procedure and basic X-ray interpretation experience.
Effective communication skills in English; Spanish-speaking a plus.
Committed to continuous learning, quality improvement, and patient satisfaction.
Board Certification in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Occupational Medicine, or related field desired.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Additional languages preferred particularly Spanish.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
County guidelines require the flu vaccination or individual is required to wear a mask during cold/flu season.
Schedule Requirements: Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm
