JOB DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Principal the Classroom Teacher is responsible for classroom instruction in the areas for
which the teacher is credentialed, authorized, and assigned to teach. The teacher identifies students’ needs in relation
to curricular objectives; applies a program of instruction consistent with students’ learning needs, objectives, and
instructional materials; uses appropriate teaching strategies; assesses student progress; creates and manages a
classroom environment conducive to student learning; and communicates with parents regularly regarding the
students’ academic and social progress.
REPORTS TO: School Site Principal or Coordinator of Online Learning and Intervention Supports
SUPERVISES: None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 Identifies specific student learning outcomes to be attained in relation to student learning needs and
curriculum objectives.
 Determines a sequence of learning experiences utilizing District adopted instructional materials and
selected supplementary materials.
 Develops and utilizes written lesson plans following the District’s guidelines, which may include longterm weekly and daily lesson plans, as the basis of instruction.
 Applies appropriate teaching strategies consistent with the students’ needs and adheres to the District
and Site initiatives and adopted curriculum.
 Monitors and ensures assigned students are making educational progress. Provide broad professional
support, advice and counsel, evaluation of learning progress in meeting the educational needs that
prepare the students socially, emotionally, personally and intellectually.
 Uses instructional time effectively; maintains an appropriate physical environment and appropriate
individual, class and program records.
 Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning
atmosphere in the classroom.
 Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, prepares and send out
progress reports and communicates with parents regarding their student’s progress on a regular and
ongoing basis.
 Administers district and state assessments.
 Monitors attendance records in the student information system.
 Maintains professional competence through professional development provided by the district or selfselected.
 Collaborates with the supervisor and staff regularly regarding student academic and social progress,
including working within Professional Learning Communities.
 Attends and participates in meetings required by federally mandated programs, including those outside
the school day.
 Follows the IEP, SST, or 504 plans, provides the appropriate support and works with the case carriers,
counselors, and coordinators to develop the best program for identified students.
 Improves teaching effectiveness by responding to supervisor’s performance evaluation
recommendations and by participating in required school and district-sponsored professional
development activities.
 Maintains standards of professionalism and abides by the tenets of the “Code of Ethics of the Teaching
Profession” of the State of California and the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
 Completes adjunct and other duties as assigned.
TEACHERS IN THE VIRTUAL LEARNING PROGRAM
All of the above and:
 Teach lessons primarily in a virtual setting, synchronously and asynchronously.
 Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned instructional day.
 Serve as a liaison between the school of record, virtual learning program and student/parent as their primary
source of information. Respond to work/school related correspondence in an appropriate, timely manner.

 Use technology and computer software applications appropriate to the work environment and effectively
integrate computer use with and by students in the classroom
CREDENTIAL:
 Appropriate California Teaching Credential
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 Graduation from an accredited college or university
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
 Previous experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse groups
 Ability to speak a language in addition to English
 Successful experience as a classroom teacher
