This is a full-time (4O hrs/week) benefited position dependent upon continued funding.

PROJECT/POSITION SUMMARY

The Making Accessible and Effective Systems for Teacher Readiness Outcomes (MAESTROs) Project aims to improve retention and completion rates for Hispanic and low-income students on the academic pathway to become teachers and prepare these students for urgent local and statewide teacher workforce needs. The MAESTROs Project Counselor/Coordinator will report to the MAESTROs Project Manager, and to the Project Director, the Principal Investigators of the CSUMB Title 5 HSI Grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:

 

Student Counseling

 

• Provides information and assistance to students regarding specific requirements for College of Education Programs, and requirements for admissions to E&L Department integrated and post baccalaureate credential programs (not academic advising).

• Collaborates with other campus-wide efforts, and with student support services in the retention of students.

• Evaluates existing services and student needs by attending and participating in CSUMB meetings and collaborative meetings with partner institutions.

• Evaluates and makes recommendations for existing services and student needs by attending and offsite workshops and conferences.

 

Student Recruitment, Outreach, and Orientation

• Coordinates with E&L department outreach, and evaluation procedures with campus outreach efforts and orientation events on campus and in the community.

• Collaborates with other campus-wide advising, recruiting, and orientation efforts.

• Advocate, support, and guide students to appropriate resources that will enhance the academic success of the program participants.

 

College Program Coordination, Development, Implementation, and Governance Participation

• Coordinates the planning and implementation of special programs offered by the College of Education

• Plan, develop and implement COE Program goals and services, and where appropriate, ensure that goals and services are in accordance with grant requirements.

• Plan and coordinate data collection and analysis to monitor credential program impact and effectiveness.

• Collaborate with partner institutions in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of collaborative programs, such as the Teacher Pathway Program (TPP).

• Develop and maintain partnerships and communications with community groups, community-based organizations, Monterey County Office of Education, and applicable agencies, school districts, community colleges, and non profit organizations supporting the COE Credential Programs to provide educational opportunities and academic pathways to students in CSUMB’s Tri-County service area.

• Establish and maintain effective and positive professional relationships and communications in order to work collaboratively with COE program related faculty and staff, other Colleges and units at CSUMB, and partner community colleges.

• Coordinates with E&L Credential student services staff (E&L admissions and credential analyst).

• Collaborates with Elementary and Special Education Coordinators regarding ITEP credential candidates’ progress in the credential program.

• Assist Secondary Education Coordinator with development of Single Subject ITEP programs

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS

WORK LOCATION

• Hybrid Position

 

• 90% minimum in-office/on-site following the initial training period. Position location may change based on CSU expectations and department needs.

 

• Work Location: CSUMB Main Campus, 100 Campus Center, Seaside, CA

 

Due to COVID 19, this position may be approved to work remotely on a temporary basis, or may be required to physically work on campus. Work assignment locations are at the sole discretion of CSUMB and may be changed or revoked at any time.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of College programs, general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and

interview techniques, and of the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews; reason logically, collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters multicultural, multi-sexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications regarding other program or service areas Services Office.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

 

Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence.

• Master’s degree in College Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field; or California Preliminary Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential; or Preliminary Education Specialist Preliminary Teaching Credential; and/or public school teaching experience. Second language fluency – English Spanish. Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite; Oracle-PeopleSoft/CMS baseline information system; Access; Hyperion (Brio); TMA, or similar maintenance management system; and Google mail and calendaring programs.
