POSITION SUMMARY
The Tutor Coordinator directly reports to the Associate Director of GEAR UP under the general oversight of the Pre-College Program Director. The Tutor Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the academic tutorial program including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating all academic tutors. The Tutor Coordinator will build relationships across the high school and college campus to identify, train and recruit potential academic tutors. The Tutor Coordinator occasionally supports activities in the drop-in tutoring center al each of the schools in the Coastal and Salinas Valley.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:

• Recruiting/Hiring
• Utilize recruiting tools/ websites as resources to guide the candidates.
• All stages of hiring, screening application, through school site placement
• Extend job offers to candidates.
• Collaborate with Program Coordinator Site Supervisor with new hiring process set by HR Corporation

• Training/Development
• Schedules an orientation meeting with newly hired tutors
• Design and facilitate monthly tutor training meetings both at the beginning and then regularly throughout the year covering tutoring techniques, best practices and theory.
• Manage program development by interacting with students to assess needs while doing evaluation surveys of the tutor program from all angles [tutor; program; student/tutor; tutor/student; and student/program].
• Develop and maintain a tutorial handbook of policies and procedures and maintain record keeping on usage and trends,
• Train tutors on necessary modules such as current database SumTotal training and program software

• Scheduling
• Coordinate and maintain tutor schedules with relevant school site staff
• Assist with maintaining records of student employees.
• Serve as liaison between high school faculty, staff, administrators. and CSUMB
• Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the GEAR UP grant including maintaining procedures. and presentations related to the GEAR-UP program: and developing recruitment and outreach materials, including newsletters and social media sites.
• Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information where judgment and discretion are essential.
• Ensure confidentiality of all program records and other sensitive information.

OTHER FUNCTIONS
• Communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups of varying ages and cultural backgrounds to disseminate information, resolve problems. and clarify solutions.
• Represents the GEAR UP programs at university functions and at statewide and national meetings, as necessary.
• Attends relevant national, regional, and local professional development conferences, workshops and seminars.
• Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service within the department and the campus community.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Due to COVID 19, this position may be approved to work remotely on a temporary basis, or may be required to physically work on campus. Work assignment locations are at the sole discretion of CSUMB and may be changed or revoked at any time.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in education, counseling, or a related field
AND
• Two years of professional experience working in peer education or student learning support programs;

A combination of related work experience may be used to meet the education and experience requirements.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence.
• An understanding of various challenges that impact first-generation college students and low-income students, and how to assist these students to college graduation
• Strong leadership, teambuilding, and group facilitation skills
• Any amount of proven work experience in a GEAR UP/TRIO Outreach Program

Special Conditions of Employment

The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

The hourly hiring range for this position is $24-27. Classification: Grade 3, Staff. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
