Information technology (IT) is the use of any computers, storage, networking, and other physical devices, infrastructure, and processes to create, process, store, secure, and exchange all forms of electronic data. Silicon Valley tends to be ground zero for the technology industry although there is spillover into neighboring regions. In Monterey County, there are 328 IT businesses employing 900 people.

IT Training Program

While higher-paying IT entry-level jobs usually require a Bachelor of Arts college degree, there are other entry-level jobs that allow you to get a foothold into the industry. You can access those jobs by taking one of the Monterey County Works IT training programs.

The MCWDB offers TWO certificate programs at NO COST: CompTIA A+ and IT Security. These are among the most highly sought-after IT certifications employers look for when searching for entry-level employees.

The commercial use of IT encompasses both computer technology and telecommunications. The IT department ensures that the organization’s systems, networks, data, and applications all connect and function properly.
